The Institute’s area of study
Human-Centered Systems Design
The Institute examines how the design of systems shapes the conditions people experience and the outcomes institutions can sustain.
Layers of a human system
Community conditions, governance, execution capacity, and day-to-day human conditions interact to produce outcomes. Examining those layers together helps identify where decisions and responsibilities become disconnected.
Human Systems Architecture
The Institute uses its Human Systems Architecture methodology to trace the relationships among those layers and identify where institutional design can improve stability.
Measuring conditions and alignment
The Human Conditions Index examines stability in the environments people encounter. The Coherence Index examines alignment among governance, execution, and environmental conditions.
