First applied domain
Educational Architecture
Educational Architecture studies and designs the conditions that shape learning. Kevin A. Starlings originated it as the Institute’s first applied domain within Human-Centered Systems Design.
Conditions that shape learning
Classroom environments, educator capacity, student regulation, school and district alignment, and institutional structures all affect what learners can do consistently.
From classroom to institution
The work examines relationships among the learner, the classroom, the school, and the wider system. Each layer can support or undermine the conditions needed for learning.
Frameworks and measurement
Human Conditions Theory and the Distributed Conditions Model help explain how learning conditions arise. The Human Conditions Index and Coherence Index help assess stability and alignment across layers.
